After 7 Songs
After 7 is a R&B group founded in 1987 by brothers Melvin and Kevon Edmonds, and Keith Mitchell. The Edmonds brothers are the siblings of popular pop and R&B singer-songwriter-producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds". They became one of the most successful urban R&B/soul acts in the USA of the early 90s. After 7's self-titled debut album was released in 1989 and documented what was already a potent live repertoire, based on 50s doo-wop harmonies combined with 90s hip-hop rhythms. It produced two US Top 10 singles, 'Ready Or Not' and 'Can't Stop', and accrued a host of awards (including a Grammy nomination for Best Soul Group). The trio toured with artists including M.C. Hammer, Gladys Knight and Whitney Houston before releasing the follow-up collection, Takin' My Time, which achieved gold status. Further exposure came through soundtrack commissions for the movies Sugar Hill ('Gonna Love You Right') and The Five Heartbeats ('Nights Like This') and for the television programme Beverly Hills 90210 ('Not Enough Hours In The Night'). After contributing to the trio's debut, third brother Kenny ' Babyface' Edmonds returned to provide production assistance on After 7's third and last album Reflections, also writing three of the songs and singing on 'Honey (Oh How I Need You)'.
