Sharon Redd (October 19, 1945 - May 1, 1992) was a R&B/disco singer from New York. She was the half sister of R&B singer Pennye Ford. She began her recording career in 1967 for the Veep label with the Hank Williams song "Half As Much". Redd's vocals made her presence very quickly known to R&B radio stations, but it wasn't until 1979 that Redd's singing reached a wider audience via the disco hit "Love Insurance," released on RCA/Panorama Records under the name Front Page, her own vocals going uncredited. She soon signed a recording contract with Prelude Records, and Redd became the label's most successful artist. Her first album, 1980's self-titled Sharon Redd featured her biggest hit, "Can You Handle It", which reached #31 in the UK pop chart, and #5 in the US dance chart in 1981. This was closely followed by two more albums - Redd Hott (1982) and Love How You Feel (1983). Redd enjoyed a UK top 20 hit in 1982 with "Never Give You Up", and placed several songs on the US dance chart, including "Beat the Street," "In the Name of Love," and "Love How You Feel." After these releases, Sharon Redd returned to her successful career as a background vocalist, most notably with the group Soiree, which also included among its members Luther Vandross and Jocelyn Brown.
