In the early 1970s, he met Marvin Yancy and together they formed the soul group The Independents. After the group broke up Chuck and Marvin continued as a songwriter/producer duo and were behind some of Natalie Cole's biggest hits, including: "This Will Be," "Inseparable," "Sophisticated Lady", "Our Love," and "I've Got Love on My Mind". They also produced material for Phyllis Hyman, The Impressions, Ronnie Dyson and many other artists.
Chuck also had a solo career recording two albums "Gonna Getcha' Love" and "Passionate Breezes" under the name Charles Jackson. He is the half-brother of Rev. Jesse Jackson.
