Paula Julie Abdul (born June 19, 1962) is an American singer-songwriter, dancer, choreographer, actress and television personality. Abdul scored a string of hits in the the US and UK pop charts in the late 1980s and early 1990s several of which became R&B hits also, the biggest of which was "Straight Up" which topped the the Billboard US Hot 100 chart in 1988 and reached number 2 in the R&B chart, and number 3 in the UK chart . Her six number one singles on the Hot 100 tie her with Diana Ross for seventh among the female solo performers who have topped the chart. She won a Grammy for "Best Music Video - Short Form" for "Opposites Attract" and twice won the "Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Choreography".
